new expansion plans

a huge digital revolution seems to be the elephant in the room! More and more clients are requesting a full online shopping experience from planet. So after a very successful 2009, we are investing in developing a planet shopping site. This will progress in stages, so that we can iron out glitches along the way.

our bespoke service

for many years our clients have commissioned custom designed pieces for particular requirements and particular spaces. These pieces have been hidden from public view as they generally go straight from the drawing board to the cabinetmaker to our clients. special pieces from our recent custom making history are now presented in store in a uniquely australian setting.

Our policy is to be authentic throughout the year.

Our showroom is always well stocked, so come in and select from the best that we can offer. 

We do not offer "designer discounts". A number of other retailers who have significantly higher margins, offer discounts only  to some clients. We wonder on the fairness of this practice, particularly when clearance sales that happen numerous times throughout the year, offer even greater reductions. Rest assured that our pricing is consistent for all and that we are not going to get you into a messy panic to grab a bargain!

what recession?

we need to set things straight...we've never been busier. In 2009 we had three record months of all time despite consolidating into one location. Perhaps its the nesting instinct, or sudden drop in mortgage repayments, or possibly our shiny new expanded stock range.  It seems as though many of you consider our items a long term investment. ...planet commonwealth is now open seven days with more stock than ever before in one location.

As a result we are consistently improving our showroom presentation.....more good reasons to have a look!

our recent exhibition of 18 australian studio ceramists working in tableware co-incided with the australian ceramics triennale. some work now continues on as part of our collection.

Vogue Living has featured many of the pieces from this exhibition in a six page article in the November December issue, focussing on hand crafted Australian tableware. Congratulations to all of the makers involved! Drop in and see their passion in clay.

success with saturday in design

more than 2000 visitors, mostly interior designers and architects visited our showroom for saturday indesign to view our collection of new pieces from our recent bespoke history in 2009. what a crazy day! artist gregory harris illistrated an australian desert horizon on our walls and we placed a forrest suspended from our ceiling...this installation remains so...please drop in to experience an interior micro climate!

meeting with japan

Ernest Fratczak visited Tokyo and Kyoto and has captured the diverse essence of his travels with portraiture, streetscapes, architecture and contemporary culture in planet's first photographic exhibition. The beautiful large prints are inspired by reading Fosco Maraini’s 1950’s book Meeting with Japan.
