the homage series is a body of work that reflects inga’s different interactions with nature. she explores the theme of idealised memories and their transformation from the nostalgic to a position of present truth. each vessel is used as a symbol of the encroaching development of structures into once pristine areas. by saturating the clay with different colours, the aim is to imbue the slab and therefore the vessel with the concept of the natural environment being inextricably and beautifully entwined with our own lives.
these vessels are made from thin slabs of porcelain paper clay, coloured with metallic oxides and ceramic stains. they are high fired without glaze and then polished to produce a satin sheen with subtle undulations. the decoration penetrates the wall structure, beyond the surface, and permeates through the depth of the clay body, enabling the embellishment to be viewed both internally and externally, attaching a depth of honesty to the vessel itself. each vessel has some element of white, preserving the lightness, purity and translucence of the porcelain.
prior to her foray with clay, inga trained as a textile designer and worked for well over a decade in a textile design studio. to inga, ceramics felt like a natural transition, and her focus on form, pattern and colour shows an influence and knowledge of textiles.
