  • celebrating first nations

to celebrate the first nations of australia this week, we thought that a little spotlight on our paintings was due. ernabella is a community about four and a half hours south of alice springs in the heart of australia. their arts center was established in 1948 and with about forty artists turning up to create every day, it is at the core of their culture.

we decided at planet a while ago that we would love to represent work from this centre. one of our former staff, ruth mcmillan worked in the community for six years with her partner, julian green, so a relationship of trust was very natural. and significantly, planet doesn't make any income from the sale of these works.

of course the artists are paid, and the cost of framing and tax is also taken out of the sale price, and all of the balance we donate to a charity. ernabella arts community decided that they would like the money sent to a charity fund to assist to bring dialysis treatment to ernabella.... western desert dialysis. at present many people need to leave community for treatment for extended periods.

in the 2017 calendar year we donated $9536.60 to the charity after the sale of 17 paintings. many clients seem concerned about aboriginal artists being taken advantage of.... so if you feel inclined... buying an ernabella painting from planet is possibly one of the best feeling things that you could do... the current collection in extensive and varied and we think the best ever.....and as we are selling more and more, the ernabella centre is providing us with spectacularly good work.... you can buy online and then collect in store or even have one delivered .. or best of all, come in and have a look.

  • finding yourself at home...

ah..... a peaceful gentle moment for you all at this time of year.....

so this year we are celebrating a few achievements:

thank you to all of our amazing clients and suppliers and staff for another fantastic year!.......after closing potts point due to constant flooding issues, we very much appreciate everyone who has travelled to surry hills to continue our interaction... and in fact our turnover has increased and this has allowed an even greater range of stock...

of course of furniture range keeps evolving with a few new stars delighting clients quite regularly.... our splayed-leg elliptical dining table seems to solve a lot of problems.

we do now hold a lot of furniture in stock now, so possibly we can help you with more pressing desires (and our cabinetmakers are only away for a short break this summer)

we are so happy to be showcasing the work of so many creative australian craftspeople and so much wonderful work from makers across india and japan...it means the world to so many ... just this week a maker let it be known that because of planet and our long association, she has been able to stay living in australia...... in india it is the entire livelihood of some families that we are responsible for....so a big thank you.

handmade ceramic tableware has always been our thing and now that the rest of the world has caught up... its so exciting that we have expanded and broadened this whole are of what we do.. with many new makers and many new products from our suppliers that we have represented for years...

after the artists have been paid their commission, the proceeds of sales of 17 paintings so far this calendar year, from the ernabella arts centre, have allowed us to donate $9536.60 on your behalf, to the western desert dialysis charity  https://www.westerndesertdialysis.com

we have made small showroom improvements after combining the two showrooms and in the new year we have a few more coming too..finally a new counter is on the way!

our carpet and soft furnishing range is expanding with great success. many unique carpets have been designed by planet and hand-knotted in india this year for custom orders.. and our unique quilts are becoming a bit of a thing too.... in february ross travelled to the kullu valley in the himalayas to work with yak's hair weavers... this coming january he will be in assam with ahimsa (non-violent) silk weavers..

we wish you a merry whatever you do... and a very happy new year with friends and families... from the whole planet team.
