david’s pots aspire to the simplicity and dignity of pots of the kamakuri period of japan. texture is created through incised lines and asymmetrical rims and distortions of the standard shape. the surface is then treated with an iron or cobalt slip and then covered with a calcium matt glaze. many of the pots are finished off with wood ash sprayed onto them. the firing process melts all these competing ingredients into the end result. these bowls are stoneware which means they are very durable because they are fired at high temperatures and hence are dishwasher safe. they are also gas fired which creates incredible depth and lustre.
