hidemi tokutake was born in Japan and has studied ceramics there. she is currently studying at the national art School in sydney.
australian nature and landscape are a source of new ideas and inspiration. australian plants seem extra terrestrial to her, especially the banksia, because the shape and texture are totally different to plants from japan.
in this series she has built new creations based on sculptural flowers, evolved in new directions. they are made from various clay bodies and are all dry volcano glazed. she likes the way that the glaze seems to stop time and turn her flower forms into fossils.
