liz stops has been a practising artist for many years, exhibiting throughout australia. stops has worked mainly in porcelain, making objects whose forms are derived from both man made and naturally occurring elements in the landscape.
slip casting and mould-making techniques are used as a means to explore different ways of expanding original prototypes into series of objects.
the expanded groups are then arranged in a variety of configurations. relationships between the objects are established at the initial stages of their forming and then reinforced by their final placement.
these porcelain objects are polished, rather than glazed. they have been fired to 1280 degrees and are vitrified and therefore watertight.
