hirata terunobu studied at the warrandyte potter’s cottage in the 1990’s. he has been practicing for over 15 years. he has also studied alongside a number of traditional potter’s in Japan with a particular influence on japanese bizen pottery.
hirata originally trained as a chef and worked at kuni’s japanese, one of the oldest japanese restaurants in australia. his experience as a chef has informed his work as a potter, ensuring that the form and function of each piece has been carefully considered. his work is as beautiful to look at as it is to use with a strong awareness of balance and detail.
